Rasner's status unclear after Karstens' injury

Darrell Rasner's status with the New York Yankees became unclear on Saturday with an injury to Jeff Karstens.

Karstens started on Saturday against the Boston Red Sox, but was hit by a line drive in the right leg against the first batter he faced. Karstens tried to stay in the game, but was removed after allowing another single. Karstens ended up suffering a broken fibula.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the team will promote a pitcher from the minor leagues to replace Karstens. But he added as of Saturday night he didn't know who it woud be.

Rasner figures to be one of the candidates to be promoted. He started the season with the Yankees and pitched effectively, posting an 0-1 record with a 3.86 earned run average.

But despite pitching effective, the 1999 Carson High graduate was optioned to Triple Scranton Wilkes/Barre. Rasner has made one appearance with the Yankees Triple A team so far, not allowing a run in three innings.
