Virginia Henry

A memorial service for Virginia "Ginny" Henry, 89, a longtime Genoa resident, will be 11 a.m. June 23 at the Genoa Town Park.

Mrs. Henry died May 27, 2007, of lymphoma. She was born April 20, 1918, in Belvedere, Ill., to Alfred and Winifred Meyers.

She attended Pasadena Junior College as a business major, graduating in 1939.

She worked for the Pasadena Board of Education and was a medical receptionist at Lockheed Aircraft Corp. in Burbank, Calif. After moving to Genoa, she worked at the Sprouse Reitz Co. Department Store in Carson City for 15 years until the store closed in 1990.

She enjoyed dancing at Hollywood's Coconut Grove, fishing, embroidery and textile arts, cooking and gardening. For more than 30 years, she produced hundreds of pounds of divinity candy for Genoa's Candy Dance, earning herself the name "Divinity Queen."

She was preceded in death by her husband David James Henry and three brothers and sisters.

Among her survivors are children Jim of Reno, Bill of Oakland and Faye of Port Henry, N.Y.
