9 COVID-19 deaths in Quad Counties Dec. 2-8

Carson City Health and Human Services on Thursday reported nine deaths in the Quad County region from Dec. 2 to Dec. 8.
Three deaths were in Lyon County and two each in Carson City, Douglas and Storey counties.
For the week, CCHHS also reported 222 new cases, and 273 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 21,844, with 16,831 recoveries and 393 deaths; 4,620 cases remain active.

Carson City had 2 deaths, 80 new cases, and 114 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Carson City is 5 new cases per day with a 5.3% test positivity rate.
Douglas County had 2 deaths, 52 new cases, and 53 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Douglas County is 4 new cases per day with a 9.2% test positivity rate.
Lyon County had 3 deaths, 89 new cases, and 106 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Lyon County is 10 new cases per day with a 11.8% test positivity rate.
Storey County had 2 deaths, 1 new case, and 0 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Storey County is 0 new cases per day with a 17.4% test positivity rate.
 
COVID-19 Vaccination Update
 
As of December 8, 2021, approximately 216,375 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered by Quad-County providers. CCHHS has administered 74,173 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Approximately 87,719 Quad-County residents have completed vaccination (received both doses of a 2-dose series vaccine such as Pfizer or Moderna or received the single dose Janssen vaccine) and 97,522 have initiated it (received the first dose of a 2-dose series such as Pfizer or Moderna. This number also includes those who completed the series). Data is not CCHHS’ and is taken from the Nevada Health Response Dashboard which can be found at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/.
In Carson City, 33,607 residents have been completely vaccinated and 37,294 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 61.8% of the population 5 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Douglas County, 25,618 residents have been completely vaccinated and 28,458 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 53.9% of the population 5 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Lyon County, 27,684 residents have been completely vaccinated and 30,870 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 49.7% of the population 5 years and older have completed vaccination.
In Storey County, 810 residents have been completely vaccinated and 900 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 19.9% of the population 5 years and older have completed vaccination.
 
Quad-County Breakthrough Cases 
Vaccine breakthrough cases are individuals who test positive for COVID-19 14 or more days after they have completed all recommended doses of an FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine. A complete vaccination is two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccine. Since February 1, 2021, breakthrough cases make up 15% of all Quad-County cases ages 12 years and older.
 
Upcoming CCHHS Walk-In COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics
 
All vaccines are available on a walk-in basis at every event for first, second, and third doses for those who are immunocompromised. Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen booster doses are available for those who are eligible. Pediatric Pfizer available for those ages 5 to 11 years.
