Prep roundup: Truckee tops Wave in five games

The Lady Wave nearly upset the defending state champs on Friday after coming back to force a fifth and final game.
Hosting Truckee on Friday, Fallon won the first game by 14 points, but Truckee roared back to win the next two by identical scores, 25-15. The Lady Wave won the fourth, 25-21, to force the decisive game that saw Truckee come back to win, 15-8, to avoid the upset.
Earlier in the week, Fallon upset South Tahoe, which has been one of the top teams in the state. Fallon defeated the Vikings on the road on Tuesday, 25-12, 25-19, 15-25 and 25-9.
Fallon hosted Sparks on Wednesday and will entertain North Valleys on Friday to conclude 3A crossover play. The Lady Wave travels to Lowry on Wednesday to begin the 3A East schedule.

Bighorns drop two
Oasis Academy dropped a pair of 1A matches last week to Coral Academy and Sierra Lutheran.
Coral Academy won 25-20, 29-27 and 25-16 on Wednesday in Reno. Sierra Lutheran spoiled the Bighorns’ home opener on Friday, defeating the host 25-12, 25-14 and 25-20.
Oasis Academy traveled to Coleville on Monday and returns to face Round Mountain in Fallon on Friday and travels to Pyramid Lake on Monday.

Girls Golf
Seeing action for the first time this season, the Lady Wave golf team visited Elko County last week for a pair of tournaments.
With Fallon fielding a team of three golfers, one shy of the requirement to score in the team standings, Hannan Benjamin led the way with a score of 108 in the Spring Creek tournament on Tuesday. Charissa Chenoweth followed with a 124 and Madison Gregory finished with a 131. The top score went to Douglas’ Giana Zinke, who carded an 82. All scoring Douglas golfers finished under 92 as the Tigers won the tournament by 110 strokes.
In the following tournament in Elko on Wednesday, Benjamin carded a 104 followed by Chenoweth with a 122 and Gregory at 126. Douglas won the tournament over South Tahoe, 316-447. Douglas’ Abby Miller won the tournament with a 73.

Soccer
The Greenwave soccer teams concludes the non-league portion of their schedule this week.
The boys team fell to Reno, 5-2, on Thursday in Reno before dropping a 5-2 contest to Truckee in Fallon on Saturday. Fallon hosts McQueen on Thursday and Manogue on Saturday before welcoming Lowry next week to being 3A East play.
The Lady Wave almost picked up their first win of the year when Thursday’s game against Sparks ended in a 1-1 tie. Fallon traveled to Wooster on Monday and heads to Hug on Saturday before traveling to Lowry next week.
