A 37-year-old man was arrested Thursday for assault and theft of a tractor, according to a Lyon County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Michael Gettis was caught in Silver Springs on Thursday afternoon following an initial incident in Fernley, the release said.

On Thursday, Feb. 9 at 3:24 p.m., LCSO deputies were dispatched to the area north of Singing Waters Road on U.S. Highway 50 Alt in Fernley for a reported larceny.

A Fernley resident reported seeing a bobcat tractor that had been stolen from the Nevada Cement Quarry, the release said. The resident confronted the suspect, who punched the reporting party multiple times.

The suspect fled the area on foot and then returned in a Chevrolet truck and attempted to run over the reporting party before fleeing southbound on U.S. 50 Alt toward Silver Springs, the release said. Deputies stationed in Silver Springs located the truck and conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Nugget Casino.

Gettis denied being in an altercation or stealing the bobcat, but physical evidence and the deputies’ investigation suggested otherwise, the release said.

Gettis was booked into the Lyon County jail for assault with a deadly weapon; grand larceny of motor vehicle; battery; and petit larceny. Bail was set at $37,280.
