Two weekends ago, the Tahoe Blue Events Center hosted the 17th annual Tahoe Invitational Youth Hockey Tournament.

It marked the first year the event has been held in the new Tahoe Blue Events Center.

The Tahoe Grizzlies 10U team was able to be the first team to play on the ice at the new venue and on Monday, Jan. 15 they won the championship in the 10U-B division over the Ventura Mariners, 4-2.

Visit Tahoe Visitors Authority sponsored the ice for the weekend.

The tournament is the Tahoe Grizzlies’ biggest annual fundraiser for youth hockey in the area.

Previously, the tournament has been hosted at the South Tahoe Arena, which previously held the tournament to a maximum roster of 24 teams.

With the new venue, the tournament was able to expand to 36 teams.

“This is the biggest fundraiser annually for the nonprofit,” said Stacie Gunderson. “While we can’t tie out the budget just yet, it is certainly the top-grossing tournament. The funds raised will allow the nonprofit to continue to make hockey assessable to more youth.”
