Lots of limits at Eagle Lake

LAKE ALMANOR: No report.

LAKE ALPINE: No report.

BLUE LAKES (UPPER AND LOWER): No report.

BOCA RESERVOIR: No report.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR: Steve Marti of the Lower Twin Lake Resort and the Bridgeport Marina (760-932-7751) checked in and said, "Lake levels are still dropping and most of the southern areas are dry or very low. Anglers are moving north towards the center of the lake and towards the dam area where the water is deeper and cooler.

Rental boats are still available in the Bath Tub area but launching is getting difficult. Fish are still being caught but the anglers hare working for them. Inflated nightcrawlers are still the best."

BURNSIDE LAKE: No report.

CAPLES LAKE: Very windy over the weekend. Not many boats. Two shore fishermen reported catching four rainbows, up to 2 pounds, on inflated worms.

CARSON RIVERS (EAST AND WEST) IN CALIF.:

East Carson: No report. Very low and crystal clear.

West Carson: Extremely low and crystal clear. Fishing has been good if you know how to fish that type of water. Two anglers limited out with rainbows, up to 2 pounds, on red salmon eggs.

CRATER LAKE (Near Kit Carson Pass): No report.

CONVICT LAKE AND CONVICT CREEK: No report.

CROWLEY LAKE: No report.

DAVIS LAKE: No report.

EAGLE LAKE: Dave Meserve of the Eagle Lake Marina (530-825-3454) sent in this report: "Fishing continues on the up side. Limits were again quite common most of the week. Trout are still averaging 3-4.5 pounds. Several trout were weighed in at over 5 pounds. Two fish in excess of 6 pounds were weighed in at the Marina over the weekend. The use of nightcrawlers, both trolling and still-fishing, continues to be the most productive method. Rainbow Runners and Needlefish lures with or without flashers ran a close second. Anglers reported the greatest success at depths ranging from 25 to 40 feet. Eagles Nest continued as the most productive area."

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot (530-993-4683 provided this weekly update: "Reports of real nice rainbows in the 2-pound range being caught near Lunker Point and at Snallygaster. The best fishing is still early in the a.m. while the water is cool. Try Power Bait or worms."

FROG LAKE: No report.

HOBART RESERVOIR: No report.

HOOVER WILDERNESS AREA: No report.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: No report.

Summit Lake, above Indian Creek Reservoir: Doing pretty good for the deteriorating water conditions. Limits of rainbow trout were caught Saturday afternoon, using Power Bait.

JUNE LAKE LOOP (GRANT-GULL-JUNE-SILVER LAKES-RUSH CREEK): No report.

KIRMAN (CARMEN) LAKE: No report.

KENNEY RESERVOIR: No report.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR: No report.

LUNDY LAKE: No report.

MAMMOTH LAKES AREA: No report.

MARKLEEVILLE CREEK: No report.

NORTH POND: No report.

OWENS RIVER: No report.

POORE-SECRET-ROOSEVELT-LANE LAKES: No report.

PYRAMID LAKE: Closed.

RED LAKE: Very windy over the weekend. Not many boats. A report of a 2-pound trout caught on Power Bait by a woman from Dayton.

SACRAMENTO RIVER: No report.

SILVER LAKE: No report.

SHASTA LAKE: No report.

SOUTH-NORTH-INTAKE 2-BISHOP CREEK (WEST OF BISHOP): The Bishop Creek Lodge (760-873-4484) checked in with this report: The weather has remained fantastic. Very comfortable daytimes and chilly but nice at night.

South: The lake has stopped spilling but the fishing has remained good. The fish just keep getting bigger. A 10-pound, 13-ounce Alper's Trophy Rainbow Trout on Power Bait. This is the biggest fish from this area this year. Also, a 8-pound, 5-ounce Alper's on a red/gold Thomas Buoyant lure. The best bait remains Power Bait with rainbow or lemon twist being the favorite colors. The best lures are still the red/gold Thomas Buoyant or the red/white Trout Trap Stingers.

North: Fishing was very good with Power Bait working the best. Lemon twist or rainbow were the colors of choice.

Intake No. 2: Was great for the kids this week. The added flow of water brought a lot of natural food to the reservoir and kept the fish eating all day.

Bishop Creek: Salmon eggs or Power Bait proved to be the best in baits. Nightcrawlers did OK but eggs were king. Quite a bit of action with Panther-Martin lures. The biggest trout was a 10-pound, 9-ounce Alper's on a Mepps lure.

STAMPEDE RESERVOIR: No report.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore: Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) reported, "The big news this week is the Big Mack Feed this coming Friday evening. This past week we were catching average-sized Mackinaws with an occasional rainbow. Most of the Macks are in the 3-5 pound class and we are tagging and releasing the smaller ones. Best fishing is in the first two hours of daylight. We are trolling 250-550 feet deep in front of the Carnelian Bay-King's Beach area with silver flasher blades and live minnows or pearl colored Apex lures."

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: No report.

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore: No report.

TOPAZ LAKE: Fishing has been slow. Not very many boat fishermen. Lots of speed boats, water skiers and jet skis.

TWIN LAKES (UPPER AND LOWER):

Upper Twin: No report.

Lower Twin: Steve Marti of the Lower Twin Lake Resort and the Bridgeport Marina (760-932-7751) checked in and said: Windy conditions slowed fishing down last week but good stocks by F&G kept many shore anglers happy. Lots of stocked fish were caught all week with Power Bait, worms or lures. The Thomas Buoyant lure still works the best in the red/gold color. The biggest trout of the week was a 6-pound, 3-ounce rainbow caught on a homemade black/orange fly.

F&G is stocking the lake and Robinson Creek on a weekly basis.

Robinson Creek: Still producing lots of stocked fish on red salmon eggs or small lures.

VIRGINIA LAKES AREA: No report.

WALKER LAKE: No reports of any fishing success. A few boats are fishing deep in front of the cliffs. Other than that, it is mostly jet skiers and water skiing.

WALKER RIVERS (EAST-WEST-LITTLE):

East Walker (Nev.): No report.

West Walker (Nev.): No report.

East Walker (Calif.): Water flows are still good.

West Walker (Calif.): Low and crystal clear.

Little Walker: Low and crystal clear. Good fishing for easy limits of small brookies and rainbow trout on worms in the Willow Flat area.

WASHOE LAKE: No report.

WEBER RESERVOIR: Bob Tompkins of the Gun and Tackle Store in Hawthorne (775-945-3266) reported that. "I've heard that the water level is way down but they are still catching bass, catfish and crappie. Using "stink baits" such as chicken liver, shrimp and "Uncle Josh's" cheese and blood for the catfish. Small jigs for crappie and spinner baits for bass."

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR: Dennis Dunn of the Wildhorse Resort (775-758-6472) gave this report: "Fishing is just excellent. The lake is low but there is no moss this year. Boats have to be launched at the Native American campground, from the beach, not from the landing. The weather has been beautiful. The best fishing is by the trollers who are using silver flasher blades and worms. In addition, a fisherman, last week, caught three bucketfuls of perch. He was using worms with a kernel of corn or a white tube jig."
