120 YEARS AGO

The loss by the Truckee fire amounts to about $350,000. Before the embers were dead, however, the enterprising people were ordering new lumber for building. The demi monde have been burned out and will not be allowed to relocate to their old quarters where the fire began. Free whiskey has resulted in much drunkenness.

100 YEARS AGO

Telephone is now a fixed institution in Carson and people wonder how they managed for so many years to worry along without it. One lady said, "Sometimes people call who are awful bores and you don't want to see them, especially in hot weather."

70 YEARS AGO

Los Angeles. Television sets will cost less in three years than radios, as soon as inventors switch from the disc type of receiver to one with a tube.

50 YEARS AGO

The bridge which spans the Carson River east of the Nevada State Prison is going to be repaired after all. Repairs, which cost $2,000, are going to be made with cooperation of Churchill County. They will loan Smiley Atkinson, maintenance man with the Carson-Truckee Irrigation District, to do the job. He is an excellent pile driver.,

20 YEARS AGO

One of Nevada's champion fiddlers, pictured, may be among the Old Time Fiddlers Association members entered in the Capital City Fair. They hope to stir up interest in a local chapter.

10 YEARS AGO

Mustang Properties, Virginia City story, must pay $10,500 in school construction taxes (impact fees) to the Storey County School District for 22 dwelling units it is building near Lockwood. The company which also owns the Mustang Ranch brothel, will pay $500 per dwelling unit.
