Obituary Samuel 'Peter' Athens

Samuel "Pete" Athens, 65, a Carson City resident for the past 28 years, died Aug. 12, 2001, in Reno. He was born Aug. 17, 1935, in Lincoln Park, Mich., to John and Stella Arvanitis Athens.

He married Phyllis Rearick Feb. 21, 1965, in Las Vegas.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Michigan.

Mr. Athens was an avid coin collector and antique car enthusiast. He enjoyed working in his garden. He was also an avid fisherman and reader. He was Greek Orthodox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Among his survivors are his wife Joyce of Carson City; sons James Rearick of Yucaipa, Calif., Robert Rearick of California; Kenneth Rearick of Mira Loma, Calif., John Athens of Magalia, Calif., and Anthony Athens of Carson City; daughters Lucinda Rearick and Carol Stammer, both of Placerville, Calif., and Shawn Rivera of Gardnerville; brothers Charles Athens of Arizona and Angelo Athens of California; sister Anne Costa of Michigan; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
