Richard "Z" William Zahrndt, 56, of Carson City, died Aug. 11, 2001, at his residence.
He was born in Rochester, N.Y., on March 26, 1945, to Willis C. and Elizabeth Zahrndt. He moved to Reno in 1958 with his mother and sister where they owned the Whites Creek Ranch.
Mr. Zahrndt attended Vaughn Middle School, Bishop Manogue High School and University of Nevada, Reno. His post graduate work was done at University of California, San Francisco, where he specialized in respiratory care. He worked as a certified respiratory therapist at Washoe Medical Center and St. Mary's Hospital in Reno before moving to Carson City in the late 1970s. He was employed at Carson-Tahoe Hospital as a respiratory therapist and CPFT.
He joined the Air Force upon graduation and served with the Nevada Air National Guard. His love of flying will always be remembered. He was a member of the Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 1006.
He was an avid supporter of Ducks Unlimited, Nevada Big Horn Sheep, Nevada Waterfowl and Reno Air Races. Mr. Zahrndt loved shooting sporting clays, playing golf and often attended the major quarter horse shows helping his sister and serving as her psychological adviser.
He is survived by his sister Penelope Z. Lee, nephew John W. Riggs III, niece Tracy Ann Seymour and many friends.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at 5:30 p.m. at the Carson City Elks Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St., Carson City. For information, call 882-2177.
