A memorial service for Richard Oren Lawton, 87, a Carson City resident for the past 10 years, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Elks Lodge No. 2177, 515 N. Nevada St., followed by a reception.
Mr. Lawton died July 26, 2003, in Carson City. He was born March 16, 1916, in Athol, Mass., to Robert H. and Eva Lockwood Lawton. The Lawton family owned the oldest Massachusetts tree farm for more than 200 years. Historically preserved by the state in 1990, it is now known as the Lawton State Forest.
He graduated from Norwich University in 1940.
Before moving to Carson City, he lived in San Mateo, Calif. ,and West Hartford, Conn.
Mr. Lawton was a salesman with the 3M Co. and a Realtor in San Mateo, Calif. He retired in 1971.
He was a Rotarian and a member of the Carson City Elks Lodge 2177 and Eagle Aerie 1006. He was a Catholic.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a captain in Sicily.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile F. on May 28, 1979.
Among his survivors are his daughters and sons-in-law Carol and Robert O'Hara of Houston and Nancy and Dale Cooper of Sarasota, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law J. Robert and Jane Lawton of Carson City; loving companion, Jeanne Kohn of Sacramento; grandchildren Robert K. O'Hara of Clearlake, Calif., Kimerly O'Hara of Houston and Amanda Cooper of San Francisco.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
