Custodians throughout the Carson City School District returned to the schools Monday to begin construction cleanup from the bond projects before classes start on Aug. 28 and 29.
"It's coming together fine," said Judy Ellison, head custodian for Carson Middle School. "We'll be ready to go."
With projects from the $18 million school-improvement bond still being completed this week, Ellison said they expect to be working long hours.
"We'll be putting in a lot of overtime before school starts," she said. "But every year, we have a lot of construction going on. This is nothing new."
Jeff Sepahpour, superintendent of Q & D Construction, the construction manager for the school district, said the projects are coming together on schedule.
"I feel fantastic," he said. "We got a lot of work done in a little amount of time."
The only unfinished projects are two science labs at Carson Middle School, but Sepahpour said they will be finished by the time students return.
Teachers will be able to start setting up their classrooms on Thursday.
Students and teachers from Bray and Fritsch elementary schools and Carson Middle School will have air conditioning - but not until 10 days to two weeks after school starts.
Bordewich Elementary School will not have air conditioning installed until next summer.
Sepahpour expects to continue to work on non-disruptive projects until the second week of September and work on others over Christmas break.
In December, plans will begin to design and bid the second phase of the bond projects to begin next summer.
