Robert Courtney Riley, 82, a former Carson City resident, died Aug. 20, 2001, in Sun City West, Ariz.

Mr. Riley was born March 20, 1919, in Lafayette, Ind.

He was the Nevada state director of vocational education for 10 years, retiring in 1980. He was vice president of Indiana Vocational College and served in the Army Air Corps from 1944-46.

He attended high school in Lafayette and received a bachelor of science degree and master's degree from Purdue University.

Mr. Riley was an elder at First Presbyterian Church in South Bend, Ind., was a more than 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge; the Lions Club; a 30-year Rotarian, and member of the Shepherd of the Hills Methodist Church in Sun City West, Ariz.

Among his survivors are his wife Madalyn of Sun City West; daughter Colleen R. Naftzger, and son-in-law, Walter, of Surprise, Ariz., and Vail, Colo., three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West.

The family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 9034 N. 23rd Ave., Phoenix, Ariz., 85021-2850.

Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel and Cremation Center in Sun City West is in charge of arrangements.
