34th Sierra Trek in California

The 34th annual Sierra Trek, the largest all-volunteer four-wheel drive event in the nation, will be held on Aug. 17-20.

It is hosted by the California Association of Four-Wheel Drive Clubs.

This family-oriented event is expected to draw more than 1,500 four-wheel drive enthusiasts from throughout the United States and foreign countries.

The Sierra Trek will feature daily four-wheel drive trips on the famous Fordyce Creek Trail. It is only 10.5 miles in length but it offers some of the most challenging granite four-wheeling in the country.

You can join the trek for a single day of the event or for all of the Sierra Trek.

The trek begins at Meadow Lake, which can be reached in a two-wheel drive vehicle without any difficulty.

Meadow Lake provides space for tent camping or RV's.

To reach Meadow Lake: From Truckee, Calif., go north on Calif. S.R. 89 for 14.3 miles to the U.S. Forest Service Sign that says, "Independence Lake, Webber Lake, Jackson Meadows Reservoir." Turn onto U.S.F.S. Road No. 07 and continue for 9.5 miles to Meadow Lake.

Other activities include organized games and activities for children, a Four-Wheel Drive trade show, entertainment, and a historical Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) trip through the Mother Lode on Aug. 19.
