Carson boys begin soccer postseason today

The Carson High School soccer team will begin its quest for a trip to Las Vegas under the lights tonight when the Senators visit Reed for the first round of the Northern 4A Regional Tournament.


Carson, 10-4-2 and riding a four-game win streak into the post-seson, faces Reed in a 7 p.m. contest in Sparks. Carson is the No. 3 seed from the Sierra League and Reed (8-2-6) is the second-place representative from the High Desert League.


In other first-round action today, Douglas plays at McQueen at 2 p.m.


McQueen won the High Desert Legue with its 10-3-3 record. Douglas finished fourth in the Sierra League with a 7-6-3 record, including losses in its last two regular season games.


South Tahoe (12-3-1) hosts Galena (7-7-2) at 2:30 p.m. and Reno (12-2-2) hosts Sparks (6-8-2) in the other opening round matches.


The Carson-Reed winner moves on to play the survivor between Reno and Sparks in the semifinals at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Reed. The Douglas-McQueen winner plays either Galena or South Tahoe at 6:30.


The tournament's two finalists advance to the NIAA/U.S. Bank 4A State Tournament Nov. 10-11 at Cimarron-Memorial High School in Las Vegas.
