Fallon High School is regarded as the team to beat in Northern 4A volleyball this fall. Quite possibly the team to beat anywhere in Nevada.

The Greenwave did nothing to hurt their stock on Wednesday when they swept past Carson in a three-set match between front-runners in their respective Northern 4A High Desert and Sierra leagues.

Led by 13 kills from Stanford-bound Jennifer Hucke, the Greenwave won 15-3, 15-2, 15-3.

Fallon is now 10-0 and on top of the High Desert League. Carson dropped to 10-2 and into a virtual tie with Douglas for first-place in the Sierra League.

The defending 4A state champion are every bit as good as their record indicates, according to Carson coach Daryl James.

"They're just a very good team," James said. "They're a good group of kids and Caryn (Marshall, coach) does a great job with them. They're very good individually and they don't make any mistakes to allow you an opportunity to get into the match. They just take care of business."

It's a balanced team, as can be seen by the eight different players who were credited with kills. Sophomore setter Tristan Adams had 24 assists.

For Carson, Rachael DeRiemer had four kills and three blocks and Jennifer Saunders had five blocks. Chrissy Joseph and Heidi Alexander also passed well, according to James.

"We did some decent things. Actually, I thought we played better than we did last night," James said, referring to the Senators' four-set loss at Wooster on Tuesday night.

The Senators play again on Tuesday at Reno and then play their final home match of the season next Thursday against South Tahoe.

"It's not going to get any easier," James said. "We have some games coming up and those are all against good teams. We have our work cut out for us."

The Northern 4A Region Tournament will be played Nov. 2-4 at South Tahoe, with three teams moving on to the state tournament.
