If you have an interest in fly fishing and/or fly tying, this week's "Q-Tip" is right up your alley.

Sept. 29-Oct. 1 are the dates of the annual Conclave "2000," A Festival of Fly Fishing.

That conclave will be held at the North Lake Tahoe Conference Center located at King's Beach, Calif., just off California S.R. 28.

This special fly fishing festival is being sponsored by the Northern California Council of the Federation of Fly Fishers.

Featured events include a Friday evening cocktail party, a Saturday evening awards banquet, guest speakers, fly tying presentations by more than 50 premier fly tiers, beginning-to-advanced fly casting instructions, women's programs, youth programs including beginning casting and fly tying, exhibitors including manufacturers, fishing guides, wildlife artists and fishing lodges, plus other activities such as a live auction, silent auctions and a general raffle.

There will be special guest appearances by distinguished fly fishing personalities Dan Blanton, Lisa Cutter, Floyd Dean, Joe LiBeu and Al Kyte.

Dan Blanton, fly fishing guide, tier, author and noted California fly personality, will be the featured speaker. One of his subjects will be fly fishing the Sacramento Delta area. Blanton created "The Whistler," a very successful artificial fly for bass fishing the Delta.

Various programs will include fly casting instruction with certification to be offered by Al Kyte, Joe LiBeu and Floyd Dean.

Fly Fishing Hall of Famer Lisa Cutter will be conducting a special woman's fly fishing program.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be presenting their updated Lahontan Cutthroat Trout recovery Plan for the Carson, Truckee and Walker Rivers.

The Conclave 2000 registration cost is $10 per person per day or $35 per family for the entire weekend.

The Friday night cocktail party is $8 per person.

The Saturday evening awards banquet is $30 per person for a prime rib dinner at the Crystal Bay Club at North Lake Tahoe. The banquet also features a raffle and live auction with many outstanding items.
