Road conditions favorable for holiday travelers

Thanksgiving travelers are unlikely to face major weather problems in Northern Nevada or California this holiday, according to forecasters.

No precipitation is forecast in the Reno-Carson-Tahoe area today through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are projected to be in the low 50s during the days and down to the high 20s overnight today and Thursday.

Saturday through Monday highs will be 50-60, while lows will range from the upper teens to near 30. Some light winds and occasional high clouds are possible, according to the forecast.

Several highway passes over the Sierra Nevada into California have been closed for the winter, including Ebbetts on State Route 4, the Lassen Loop on State Route 89, Sonora on State Route 108, Tioga on State Route 120 and the June Lake Loop on State Route 158.

Other mountain pass closures include Bishop Creek on State Route 168, Deer Cove Creek on State Route 180, Mammoth Lakes on State Route 203 and Bodie Road (State Route 270).

No traffic restrictions are in effect on Interstate 80 in California or on State Route28 in the Tahoe Basin, according to the California Department of Transportation.

Weather isn't the only reason for traffic delays, however.

The Nevada Department of Transportation warned that construction activity on Interstate 80 near the Wells Street interchange could affect traffic there Friday and Monday.

Highway 50 West between Riverton and Twin Bridges and State Route 89 near its junction with Highway 50 may have 30-minute delays weekdays because of construction, CalTrans warned.

Drivers traveling in the Fallon area on Highway 50 may face delays of 20-30 minutes this weekend, NDOT reported.

And Highway 395 from the Mount Rose turnoff to the new Zolezzi Lane interchange will be subject to lane restrictions 24-hours a day during construction in that area.
