A man was killed on the Mount Rose Highway about two miles east of State Route 28 at about 11 a.m. Friday, after stepping into the path of a truck driven by 31-year-old John Anthony Sawyer of Reno.
According to witnesses, Sawyer was traveling well within the speed limit when the accident occurred and the pedestrian stepped into the path of the vehicle, an International flatbed truck owned by Lowe's Home Improvement.
The right front of the truck hit the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no identification on the deceased and investigators are working on a positive identification.
It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs are a factor at this time.
This is the second accident with a death in two days on the Mount Rose Highway.
Highway patrol officials revealed Friday that Justin Edgar Pratt, 69, of Incline Village died before his pickup hit a snowbank that flipped it over.
Pratt died about five miles east of Incline Village at about12:15 p.m. Thursday.
