A pedestrian accident claimed the life of a 69-year-old Novato, Calif., man after he was hit by an SUV at about 9 p.m. Tuesday in Incline Village.

Joseph Joyce was crossing the street outside of the crosswalk boundaries on Highway 28 near Southwood Drive when he was struck by a 64-year-old San Francisco woman driving a 2007 Cadillac Escalade, said Nevada Highway Patrol Officer Chuck Allen.

The driver told authorities she saw Joyce and braked and swerved to the avoid hitting him. The left portion of her vehicle struck the victim while he was in the northbound travel lane.

Joyce was transported for his injuries by ambulance to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno and later died.

NHP is investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the accident "on the part of the pedestrian," Allen said.

Witnesses to the accident are asked to call the NHP at 688-2500.
