The Carson City Junior Midgets Pop Warner football team pulled off an outstanding second half comeback last week to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Down 20-0 at halftime, Carson came back to beat the Reno Razorbacks 21-20 to improve to 4-2.

The start of the third quarter resulted in the first touchdown for the Senators. They put together a 65-yard drive behind key blocks from Tim Peters, Mike McBroom and Shane Lyons. Weslie Reddick hit Chris McBroom on a 35-yard touchdown pass.

The Razorbacks contained Travis Lamborn to just 40 yards rushing, which put the pressure on the rest of the Senator offense.

The Senators came through, led by Brian Maffei, who ran for 145 yards and two touchdowns. McBroom ran for 55 yards and Richie Norgrove rushed for 45 yards.

Behind its offensive line, Carson took the lead with two minutes left in the game on Maffei's score. On the offensive line were Tyson Curren, Tommy Moser, Travis Young, Justin Shinn, Will Adler and Frisco Merrill.

Carson's defense held Reno to 40 yards rushing in the second half. Tony Roberts had two key sacks late in the game to seal the win.

Also playing well were Lamborn, Ryan Jesse, Cam Shirey, Aaron Osheroff and Kyle Churchley. Ryan Keating, Mike Lackey, Kyle Coday and Derrick Holland also played well on defense.

In addition, defensive backs Ryan Riggs, Michael Swerdling and Alex Street played well. Johnny Hazeltine also had a strong game in the kicking department.

Carson was set to play the Sparks Cardinals at 8 p.m. last night in Sparks.
