Nine Carson City businesses and possibly two cars were hit by a pellet-gun wielding vandal this weekend and at least two of those businesses reported additional damage two days in a row.

Businesses as far north as Friends in Service Helping, at Carson and Long streets, and as far south as the South Carson McDonald's, more than 50 blocks apart, reported Saturday and Sunday finding holes in or completely shattered windows in the storefronts that face Carson Street.

All but one of the businesses are on the east side of the road, said Chief Deputy Scott Burau of the Carson City Sheriff's Department.

"The matter is under investigation and the case has been assigned to the detectives. We will also be seeking a reward through secret witness and urge anyone to contact the Sheriff's Office or Secret Witness if they have any information," he said.

Burau said the shooter is most likely using a gun which shoots small steel or brass projectiles.

A witness reported seeing a white male passenger with a goatee and wearing a black beanie pointing a rifle out the window of a white extended cab Ford truck in the area of In and Out Car Wash shortly before 8:46 a.m. Saturday. On Sunday, officers responded to a call of additional damage.

Marvin Johnson, owner of Marlo's Ltd. at 1000 North Carson Street, said his business was also hit two days in a row. He discovered the newest shot Monday morning when he opened the shop.

"The first time damage was done between 7:30 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday, and the second time it was done after 6 p.m. on Saturday and before 9 a.m. Sunday," he said.

Johnson said the vandals also shot out flourescent lights in the building's overhang. He estimates repair costs at $1,500.

Substantial damage was done to windows at Hanifan Antiques in the 200 block of North Carson St., FISH at 138 East Long St., and Donuts to Go at 1413 North Carson St. Those windows were covered with plywood Monday afternoon.

Joanna Kearns, B'Sghetti's manager, said she discovered holes in a front window when she opened the restaurant Saturday afternoon.

"When I came in the sun was coming up and everything was sparkling on the table and the chairs and the floor. Then I noticed that we had a hole in the window and realized that's where all the little diamonds came from," she said.

Kearns estimates her damage at more than $550.

At least two cars on North Division Street had windows shot out of them. It's unknown if the vandalism is related to the other window shootings.

Brent Kleidosty, who just moved to his Division Street home, discovered his driver's side window busted out but nothing missing from his car when he left for work Saturday morning.

"This is just people being stupid," he said.

Monday, the window was repaired and Kleidosty was $90 poorer.

"It cost me 90 bucks, which wasn't that bad, but still that's 90 bucks I didn't have to spend."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Carson City Sheriff's Department at 887-2020 ext. 1718.
