On Wednesday last, the express wagon running between Candelaria and Hamilton was stopped by a masked road agent and Wells, Fargo & Co.'s treasure box captured. The amount secured by the robber is not known. The Misses Calimberti are keeping up the fashion of continually importing new millinery goods.

100 YEARS AGO

Our killing items. Appeal dead men won't stay dead. They seem to bear a charmed life. The Appeal has gone into the murder business with a vengeance of late, and in spite of the most harrowing details, the victims won't stay dead. Yesterday we managed a good story at the Mountain House. We all but killed Fontag, the stage driver, at least there were three bullets in his person, but last night this inconsiderate individual drives the stage into town. Fontag is on duty and expects to remain there unless he finds someone with a better range gun.

70 YEARS AGO

Ebony Serenaders, who appear under the auspices of the Fox West Coast theatrical chain, will present a program and dance at the Leisure Hour Hall. Seven people are in the troupe.

50 YEARS AGO

Wayne Houx, in the first first murder trial since 1938, is charged with killing his estranged wife's sweetheart, with Paul Laxalt as district attorney, before District Judge Clark J. Guild. Final verdict: guilty in first degree. Total grants from Fleischmann Foundation, $88,250 with Salvation Army, $50,000.

20 YEARS AGO

WASHINGTON -- Nevada to receive $37 million, largest in four years, from Sen. Paul Laxalt's bill for the Desert Research Institute, National Judicial College to develop small business, immigration and economic development.

10 YEARS AGO

Carson District Manager of Bureau of Land Management says local BLM volunteers donated 10,857 work hours in 1992.
