120 YEARS AGO

It is claimed that the Chinese have less regard for the feelings of animals than any other class. A Chinese man was arrested for cruelty to a jackass. The animal was not much over 3 feet high, and each day went to the mountains and came back with a cord of wood on its back. The animal in question was as hollow as a bass drum when his master was arrested.

100 YEARS AGO

Jacob Webber, one of Carson's most highly respected citizens, dies. He came from Brooklyn, N.Y.,and was 53. For 25 years, he was connected with the Carson Brewery as a partner with the late Jacob Klein; for the past three years, he conducted the Arlington Hotel with John Hill. He leaves a wife and sister, Mrs. O'Brien of Gold Hill.

70 YEARS AGO

Christmas tree and program were presented in the parish hall of the Catholic Church and attended by children of the Sunday School. After a few words by Father Smith, a long program was presented. Those featured included Robert Laxalt, John Supera, Theresa Lencioni, with presents from the Dominican Sisters.

50 YEARS AGO

Santa Claus will arrive by plane and Warren Engine Co. at the civic auditorium. The chorus from elementary school, under Alfred Saliman, will entertain.

20 YEARS AGO

Storey County Commission has formed a committee to present a master plan for the preservation and restoration of Virginia City's cemeteries. Headstone of George W. Hanbridge, member of Knickerbocker Engine Co. No. 5 and chief of paid department in 1880s, has been restored.

10 YEARS AGO

International House of Pancakes has "adopted" a Mexican family this Christmas. They were a family in need in the north part of town.
