A funeral for Mercedes Medal Provencio, 90, will be at 1:45 p.m. Friday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

A Rosary will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Walton's.

Mrs. Provencio died Dec. 31, 2001, at her home in Reno. She was born Sept. 11, 1911, in Managua, Nicaragua, to Valentin Medal Perez and Cecilia Silva Rivas.

She moved to Carson City in 1983 from Managua.

Mrs. Provencio was a nurse. She was a Catholic and a member of the Basilica of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Managua. She enjoyed drawing, playing the piano and horseback riding. She did a lot of charity work.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gassy, in 1972 and brothers Salvador Medal in 1982, Edwardo Medal in 1984 and Carlos Medal in 1988.

Among her survivors are her son and daughter-in-law Henry and Vilma Medal of Reno; brother Juan Medal of Managua; grandsons Sal Medal, Harry Medal and Gus Medal and granddaughters Cecilia Medal and Luz Marina Cardoza, all of Reno.

Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
