Visitation will be noon to 3 p.m. today for Sylvia M. Mays, 74, a 35-year resident of Carson City, at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.
A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.
Mrs. Mays died June 26, 2002, in Sparks. She was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Isabela, Philippines, to Jose and Francesca Carlos Mariano Mallanao.
She worked for the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines following World War II until she moved to the United States.
She moved to Carson City in 1967 from Las Vegas. She worked for the Nevada Department of Transportation until her retirement in 1992. She was a Catholic and a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, where she volunteered as an usher and a greeter at the church. She was active at the Senior Citizen Center and enjoyed square, ballroom and folk dancing. An avid Washington Redskins fan, she liked to travel, fish and read.
Mrs. Mays was preceded in death by two brothers, Absalon Mallanao in 2002 and Florito Mallanao in 1985 and a sister, Demetria Beza in 1987.
Mrs. Mays is survived by a son, Jay Cabauatan of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Terry Cabauatan of Sparks and Frances LaFrankie of Apex, N.C.; two brothers, Marcial Mallanao of Daly City, Calif., and Jose Mallanao of Somerset, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Jaycee, Lissa, Jay Jr., Ramon and Jeremy Cabauatan and Jack and Steven LaFrankie.
Interment will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City. Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of funeral arrangements.
