In addition to the 13th annual Kids' Fishing Derby at Lampe Park in Gardnerville, which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, there will be another free, kid's fishing derby this weekend.

It will be the 10th annual kids' fishing derby on Saturday at Sawmill Pond at South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

The California derby will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Any youngster up to the age of 14 is eligible to participate.

There is no registration fee.

There is a limit of five trout per youngster.

The organizers are requesting only bait be used and that the young fishermen not use any lures.

Youngsters wishing to fish in the derby must enter where the Raley's banner is located at the pond. When they do, they will receive their loaner poles (if needed), free fishing packet (bait, hooks and sinkers) and one raffle ticket.

During the course of the day, there will be drawings for a number of raffle prizes. The youngsters must be present to win.

There will be free soda pop and hot dogs for everyone attending.

Raley's Supermarket and Drug Center at South Lake Tahoe is the primary sponsor for this event.

It is estimated that some 1,500 people will attend during the course of the one-day derby.

The pond will be planted with rainbow trout prior to the derby and it will be closed all day the preceding day (May 31).

Note: To reach Sawmill Pond, take U.S. 50 to South Lake Tahoe to the "Y." At the "Y," U.S. 50 goes left to Placerville and S.R. 89 goes right to Camp Richardson. Go straight ahead on South Lake Tahoe Blvd. Drive past the car dealerships to the four-way stop sign. Continue straight ahead for 1.3 miles to the junction of Sawmill Road and South Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Note: The organizers have put out a request for additional volunteers needed to help with the derby. Volunteers are needed for: serving soda pop, cooking hot dogs, handing out loaner poles and helping the youngsters while fishing (baiting hooks, untangling snarls, netting fish, etc.).
