Man arrested in theft at The Moving Wall

A Reno man was arrested this week in Carson City for allegedly stealing donations and auto-video equipment from The Moving Wall Vietnam War Memorial during its stay in Reno.

Carson City sheriff's deputies working with Washoe County Sheriff's Office arrested 18-year-old Colt Thomas Baldwin at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 3900 block of Pheasant Drive.

Washoe sheriff's Sgt. Clyde Terrell said, "He figured out police were after him and fled to Carson City, where he was staying with his sister."

Terrell said deputies allegedly found some of the missing property in Baldwin's possession at the time of arrest. He is charged with grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

A green four-wheeled garden cart was found in Baldwin's Ralston Street neighborhood Nov. 8, the day after the theft, deputies said. Several calls after the theft was reported in the media helped link him to the theft, Terrell said. "He's been fairly cooperative with us."

Deputies still are looking for most of the stolen audio equipment, including two DVD players, wireless microphones, an audio-mixing board and a variety of cables.

In Washoe County, Baldwin also was arrested on suspicion of drug offenses including possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and maintaining a place where drugs are sold.

Terrell said members of the Consolidated Narcotics Unit found a number of marijuana plants in the basement of his home.

Bail is set at $10,115. Baldwin also faces a possession charge from Carson City authorities.

Secret Witness is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the property, which was being donated by Quantum Audio of Reno for use at the wall during its Reno stay last week.
