Obituary: Beth B. Clark

A memorial service for Beth B. Clark, 89, a Gardnerville resident for the past 15 years and former Carson City resident, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Gardnerville. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mrs. Clark died Nov. 13, 2002, in Reno. She was born July 12, 1913, in Ryan, Okla.

She was a schoolteacher and high school counselor for 36 years in Oklahoma, Idaho, Nevada and California. She encouraged education for young people and helped many of her students receive scholarships to universities and worked closely with the military academies. She was elected as president of the State Teachers Association while teaching in Idaho. She was a longstanding active member of P.E.O. for 51 years and an avid bridge player.

In her retirement years, she was active in the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, the Family Support Council and the Douglas County Senior Center. Her last year as a volunteer, at age 89, she worked for the Nevada Highway Patrol.

She was preceded in death by her husband, F.M. "Coach" Clark.

Among her survivors are her daughter Frances Clark of Belmont; daughters and sons-in-law Hayden and Frank Newby of Kansas City, Kan., and Suzan and Frank Forvilly of Zephyr Cove; grandchildren Jennifer Chico, Monica Breen, Pamela Alvarado, Sarah Beth Kirkpatrick, and Scott, Ryan and Luke Forvilly; and great-grandchildren Jessica and Katie Savage, Brandon and Gregory Chico, Sierra, Samantha, Jake and Kaela Forvilly, and Tyler and Madison Kirkpatrick.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church for children's programs.
