BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530) 694-2930 checked in and said, "No report. The road work is still on-going. They are working on the roadway and shoulders, Monday through Friday, with traffic delays of up to 30 minutes. There is no road work on weekends. I understand that they will work until the first snowfall."

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported:

East Carson: Low but fishable. Roger Benson of Gardnerville checked in with a 5 pound rainbow taken on a tube worm and a 3 pound rainbow on a salmon egg. Another angler checked in with 3 rainbows, up to 16 inches.

West Carson: No report. Extremely low.

CARSON RIVERS, NEV: Very low.

CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: Dave DeSurra of the Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260) reported: The top rainbows of the week were a 7.71 pound Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout on a silver spinner from the south shore, a 6.03 pounder on a gold Kastmaster lure from the jetty, a 5.48 on a grasshopper fly from the north shore and a 5.14 on green Power Bait from the south shore. Rachelle Cart, age 6, of La Habra, Calif. caught a 1.50 pounder on rainbow Power Bait from the south shore.

CONVICT CREEK: Best with Trout Teasers or worms at the inlet.

CRATER LAKE, CALIF. (Near Kit Carson Pass): No report.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF: Susie Greilich at Kittridge Sporting Goods Store in Mammoth (760-934-7566) sent in this report: Best for Midge or Hornberg flies at Leighton Springs, McGee Bay or Green Banks in shallow water (3-7 feet deep).

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Fishing is improving as the fall weather moves in. The average size caught is between 14 and 16 inches with an occasional 21+ being landed. The best catches have been coming in the afternoon and during the time when the water has some chop on it.

Trolling is rated as good. Most of the fish have been caught at the north end trolling with a variety of Woolly Bugger flies. Fish have been predominately caught 8-13 feet deep.

Fly Fishing is rated as good. Most anglers have reported a 4-5 fish per rod average. Good numbers of fish in the 20-inch class in the afternoons.

Shore fishing is rated fair to good. Most are reporting as 3 fish per rod average. The north end of the lake has been the best. Fairview, Mosquito Slough, Camp Five and Mallard are all producing fish. Best baits are rainbow Power Baits and inflated nightcrawlers on a sliding sinker rig.

EAGLE LAKE, CALIF: Dave Meserve of the Eagle Lake Marina (530) 825-3454 reported: The big news this week is that shore fishing has been picking up. Cooler water temps and massive minnow "blooms" are drawing more trout into shallow water. Shore fishermen are using nightcrawlers and also jigs under bobbers.

Trolling and still-fishing the open waters areas out from the Marina jetty toward Eagles Nest and Wildcat Point continues to be most productive. Use of nightcrawlers under bobbers and trolling a wide variety of lures and trolling flies are working best.

FEATHER RIVER, CALIF: No report.

FORT CHURCHILL COOLING PONDS, NEV: Closed until the second Saturday in February.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post (530-993-3683) at Chilcoot, Calif. reported: Trollers have been doing great, trolling nightcrawlers and flashers from the Narrows down to the dam. Little Last Chance Creek has been a good place to fish lately. Try using worms with no weights.

Bank fishing continues to be good at Crystal Point. Three fly fishermen reported catching and releasing 20 fish. They were using blood Midges and strike Emergers. They were finding the fish 4-5 feet down.

Anderson to Orland: The river is at 7,000 C.F.S. and fishing for king salmon is great. Seeing limits now. Average salmon are 20-35 pounds. Seeing some Kings up to 40 pounds. Using Flatfish lures, T-50's and bouncing roe. Salmon season is open until Jan. 14.

Redding to Anderson: Rainbow trout fishing is fair to good. Producing 10-20 trout. Using spinning gear with Flatfish lures or fly fishing with Glo/Bugs or Bead Heads. Also Nymphing with strike indicators.

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: No report.

LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462): "Its windy and trying to snow this morning (Tuesday) but we are catching fish. Earlier, when we first got on the lake, I called in a fire that I could see at the beach at Incline. The flames must have been 50 feet high. My fishermen are catching limits of average sized Mackinaw trout with an occasional rainbow. I've been tagging and releasing most of the smaller ones. We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach. We are using Herring Dodger flasher blades with either live minnows or Apex lures.

Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): We've been trolling in front of Cal Nevada and Dollar Points at a depth of 100-190 feet. We're using Herring Dodger flasher blades with a live minnow."

LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: Gene St. Denis: We've been trolling in front of Camp Richardson with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. Jigging has also been good with white Herring jigs tipped with a minnow.

LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis said: Jigging has been a very effective method. We use a white jig, tipped with a live minnow. Either a two-ounce or four-ounce jig depending on the wind.

LOWER TWIN LAKE: Steve Marti of the Twin Lakes Resort reported: The water is getting colder and the fishing is getting hotter! Both trolling and shore fishing have picked up. The best spots in the lake are along Twin Lakes Road from the Marina to the end of the lake and on either side of Tamarack Lake Creek. Nightcrawlers have been the ticket lately.

The top fish of the week were a 5.5 pound and a 4.5 pound rainbow, both taken with a nightcrawler. Abby Hagar, age 3, caught a 3-pound, 14-ounce rainbow and her five-year-old sister landed a 3-pound, 1-ounce rainbow, both with nightcrawlers.

UPPER TWIN LAKE: No report.

ROBINSON CREEK: Some nice ones have been caught lately but the action has been slow. Weekly stockings by F&G continue.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) reported: It's cooling down. It got down to 25 last night (Sunday) and we had frost on our windshields. The fishing is very good. Dan and Doug Vallejo of Elko checked in with 5 rainbows that weighed 11.8 pounds, after the fish were cleaned. They were fishing from shore with Power Bait. Some fishermen from Boise, Idaho limited out while trolling with a green fly with a red head. Their rainbows ran up to 20 inches. There are a few Channel Catfish and Perch still coming out.
