Silver State Gymnastics strong in meet

The Silver State Gymnastics team of Carson City showed impressive talent in Carson City this weekend at the annual Autumn Extreme meet hosted by RAC Gymnastics.


Hannah Winder of Carson City impressed the judges with the all-around title, presenting an outstanding performance in all her events for level 4, finishing first in three of her four routines. Maddi Saarem took home the third place all-around medal and second place in the uneven parallel bars. Samantha Smith, after receiving a second place award on the balance beam, finished fifth all-around.


Two sisters, Amanda and Jessica Brazeau of Minden had successful competitions. Amanda, 8, took home the first place award for the vault, uneven bars and her floor routine. She finished the competition with a second place finish overall.


Her older sister, Jessica, 11, finished in the top three in all her events, scoring a 9.35 on the uneven bars. She took away the third place all-around medal for level 6.


The level 5 all-around title was awarded to Kalie Parmenter. Parmenter finished second in all her routines, with exception of the floor, where she placed first.


Gardnerville resident Samantha Cobb impressed the judges, taking first place in her vault, punching off the vaulting horse and sticking her landing for a 9.1 score. Cobb also achieved first place in her uneven bar routine with an 8.9, earning her the third place all-around position for level 5 athletes.


Alyssa Mesecher ended the day with the fourth place award, Nicole Updegrove was awarded fifth place and Natalie Trejo earned the seventh all-around position. Minden resident Arel Getty, attending her first competition since returning from hand surgery, merited the third place finish with her strong effort in the vaulting horse. Getty was awarded eighth place overall in level 5.


Kelsey Chicvara worked hard for her first place all-around position, with a 9.0 score on the beam in level 6. Shawntay Hudson impressed the judges and the crowd with her floor routine, scoring an 8.8 and taking second place. Jessica Brazeau took third and Sarah Steele was awarded fourth.
