The Carson City Senators Midgets Pop Warner football team got off to an impressive start with a 34-0 win over the Sparks Raiders.
Tony Roberts, Mike McBroom and Sean Christensen led the Senator defense to begin the game, holding the Raiders to -25 yards on their first drive, which ended in a safety.
The Senators took over and marched 75 yards for a touchdown by Travis Lamborn. The blocking of Justin Shinn, Daniel Cunningham and Blake Anderson led the drive.
Led by Kyle Churchley, Tim Peters and Frisco Merril, the Senator defense drove the Raiders back -35 yards on their next drive. Carson scored again before halftime, led by Chris McBroom and Lamborn, who combined for 125 yards rushing in the first half. The blocking of Austin Bartosz, Rich Norgrove, Rob Valerius, Tyson Curren, Will Adler, Donovan Dean, Vince Scognamiglio and Johnny Kim led the way.
The second half began with the Senators recovering a punt for a touchdown. On the Raiders' next drive, the Senators held Sparks to -30 yards behind Scott Pierce, Brooks Greenlee and Wesley Reddick.
The Senator defense held the Raiders to -103 yards. Tony Roberts and Norgrove also recovered fumbles.
Chris McBroom, Lamborn and Roberts combined to run for more than 300 yards. The offense was led by quarterback Spencer Van Dyke.
Carson will play the Reno Titans this week in Carson City.
