An autopsy will be conducted today to determine the cause of death of a 35-year-old Stateline woman whose body was found in her apartment over the weekend.

Douglas County sheriff's deputies also found an unresponsive 10-month-old baby boy at the apartment. He was listed Sunday in stable condition at University of California, Davis, Medical Center.

The gruesome discovery came Saturday evening when deputies responded to a request for a welfare check at an apartment complex at 131 Market St. in Stateline and contacted George Bariames, 36, at the residence.

Deputies found the body of Debbie Bariames, 35, inside the apartment, according to a Douglas County press release.

Officials say they took a 10-month-old boy to Barton Memorial Hospital. The child was "not responsive to stimuli," according to officials. He was then taken to UC Davis Medical Center.

George Bariames was taken into custody for child abuse and neglect and is currently being held at the Douglas County Jail on a $25,000 bail.

The Washoe County Coroner's Office in Reno will conduct the autopsy.

A sheriff's spokesman said no one was available Sunday to discuss details of the case, including the relationship of the suspect, victim and baby.
