Obituary: Chester Baumgardner

Chester Baumgardner, 84, a Carson City resident for the past 23 years, died March 29, 2003, in Carson City. He was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Louisville, Ky., to Oscar and Rose Peak O'Neal Baumgardner.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Sunland, Calif.

Mr. Baumgardner worked for Lundeen's Painting Co. for 42 years. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Carson Nugget.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, taking part in the Battle of the Bulge in Europe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Flips Baumgardner, in 1998 in Carson City; four brothers; and son Robert in 1995.

Among his survivors are his sons Tommy Baumgardner of Canyon Country, Calif., and Alvin Howard of California; sisters Jane Shoaf and June Oliver of Carson City; niece, Kelli Vidovich of Carson City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request, no service will be held.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
