FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683) reported that bank fishermen are doing well near the dam and in the cove areas. Floating nightcrawlers off the bottom.

Various Power Baits such as rainbow and garlic are also working.

Two fly fishermen caught and released 16 trout in the 13-19 inch range at Crystal Point.

They were using Midges and green and cinnamon Woolly Buggers.

FROG LAKE, CALIF. (On the hiking trail into Winnemucca Lake): No report.

GREEN LAKE, CALIF: Closed.

HINKSON SLOUGH, NEV. (On the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area): Recently planted with 1,003 rainbow trout, 8.5 inches.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) checked in and said, "We actually had a few brave souls out fishing in that bad weather over the weekend.

Ray Winters of South Lake Tahoe fished on Saturday and he had a pretty good day. He caught a total of four fish, including an 8-pound, 1-ounce rainbow and a 5-pound, 12-ounce rainbow, on rainbow Power Bait.

Summit Lake (above Indian Creek Reservoir): No report.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Don Hamby of the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) reported, "Pyramid is fishing well, day to day. "Blue Bird" days are terrible for catching fish up there. When the weather is bad, the fishing is better. Both shore and boat fishermen have been doing well with good quality fish. A report of a 13+ pound Cutthroat taken about a week ago."

The trollers are using frog pattern Lyman lures.

The spincasters are using different colors of Sierra Spoons.

The fly fishermen are using a Popcorn fly (a white/chartreuse beetle).

In addition, Doug Busey reported that he and his fishing partner, Steve, trolled on Sunday. It was cool and breezy but they limited out while trolling TOR-P-DO or Flatfish lures. Their largest Cutt was 18.5 inches.

SACRAMENTO RIVER. CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing in Redding (800-670-4448) said:

Redding to Anderson: Flows at 3,500 C.F.S. Rainbow trout fishing is fair to good with 8-20 fish per day. Using spinning gear with Glo-Bugs. Fly fishing with Nymphs, PT's, and egg pattern flies. Watch for fishing to be looking up as the bug hatches will be great with all this warm Spring weather this week.

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: No report.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero said water is clear. Fishing for rainbow trout and landlock kings turning up, as warm weather has arrived. Expect warm temps all week and fishing to keep getting better. Using Rapala and Rebel lures.

SPARKS MARINA (in Sparks): Recently planted with 3,334 rainbow trout, 9.5 inches.

SPOONER LAKE, NEV: No report.

SQUAW CREEK RESERVOIR (north of Gerlach in Washoe County): Recently planted with 2,000 rainbow trout, 9 inches.

STAMPEDE RESERVOIR, CALIF: No report.

LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "We got 1.5 foot of snow on Friday and Saturday. It was a bit "breezy" on Saturday and Sunday but I went out both days.

The fishing remains good for average-sized Mackinaw trout, early in the morning.

Some of the larger Macks are going up to 7-8 pounds. I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said "The Mackinaw fishing is still excellent at Dollar Point, Cal-Neva Point and Carnelian Bay.

We've been trolling 200-280 feet deep with large, silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

The Macks are running 3-7 pounds. The biggest have been up to 10 pounds.

LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: No report.

LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis said: "Since NDOW recently planted all of those rainbow planters, fishing has really improved. The bigger Mackinaw have moved in to feed on those planters. A report of a 14 pound Mack caught from shore. An 8 pound and a 10 pound Mack were caught while trolling with leadcore line and a Flatfish lure in 70-80 feet of water in front of the boat landing. Both Mackinaw were full of planter rainbows. Toplining has also improved for rainbows between Logan Shoals and Zephyr Cove with No. 9 or No. 11 Sliver/black Rapala lures at a depth of 20-30 feet.

TOPAZ LAKE:

Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported: "Fishing slowed down with the bad weather and the storm fronts coming through the area.

People were still catching fish but only 2-3 per day. Limits were hard to come by.

The trollers are going deeper and are catching bigger fish. They are trolling 20-25 feet deep, using medium-sized flashers with a nightcrawler or with black/silver or gold/silver Rapala lures. Some trollers have been doing good with Needlefish lures. Others are using 3-4 colors of leadcore line.

The trout are running 2-3 pounds.

Shore fishing remains slow.

Topaz Canal, Nev: Recently planted with 1,336 rainbows, 9 inches.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Steve Epling of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) reported: "It's sunny now (Monday morning) but we had about two inches of snow last night and the temperature dropped to about 2-5 degrees. Fishing has been good for both trout and perch. You have to launch from shore because the boat ramps are still out of the water. The rainbows and German browns are running up to 20 inches. The best action is trolling with silver flasher blades with nightcrawlers or from shore with nightcrawlers or Power Bait. Some fishermen are jigging for perch, just off the bottom, with small, white, lead-head jigs tipped with a piece of mealworm."
