The young Nevada Wonders soccer team held its own in the season opener of the Premiere Development League.

The Wonders lost 4-1 to the Fresno Fuegos. The Fuegos are a team made up of mainly players from Fresno Pacific, an NAIA power.

Wonders coach Paul Aigbogun noted that his team was made up of most players 18 and younger while most of the Fuego players were 21 and older.

"They were a bit too strong for us physically," Aigbogun said. "All in all, I was quite pleased.

"All of the young players did themselves proud. For a lot of them, this is the highest level of soccer they've played."

John Blackley scored the Wonders' goal on a penalty kick that was set up when Kirkwood Harris was pulled down on a breakaway. Aigbogun also praised the play of 16-year-old Anthony Grillo.
