Sun Devils win Joe DiMaggio opener

The Sierra Sun Devils got off to a strong start in defending their title at the Joe DiMaggio World Series with a 9-0 win over San Bruno on Saturday in Monterey, Calif.


Dayton's Matt Bowman doubled and Carson's Willie Bowman went 2-for-3 in the win. The Sun Devils will play at 4:30 p.m. today against San Francisco.


Other teams in the tournament, all from California, include Tri-County of Fresno, Castroville, Belmont, Redding and Napa and the host, Peninsula.
