BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF: Bishop Creek Resorts (760-873-4484) checked in and said:


Intake No. 2: Produced a lot of nice fish this weekend on rainbow Power Bait or inflated nightcrawlers.


North Lake: Was excellent this week. A 4-pound, 12-ounce rainbow on a fly. Great reports coming in with yellow/white Trout Traps or red/gold Thomas Buoyant lures. Rainbow Power Bait was very good.


Sabrina Lake: Reported very good fishing. Trolling was good with Rapalas or Baby Cowbells with a nightcrawler.


South Lake: The top fish were a 4-pound 14-ounce and a 3-pound, 14-ounce rainbow, both on Power Bait. DFG stocked on Friday and the Boat Landing stocked Alpers on Thursday. There was pretty good success with rainbow Power Bait or nightcrawlers.


Bishop Creek: A 3-pound, 8-ounce and a 2-pound, 8-ounce by the same angler using Power Bait.


Some nice stringers cam out of the Willow Camp Meadow but the mosquitoes have returned.


Weir Pond: No report.


Backcountry: No report.




BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) said that they continue to work on the road. Expect travel delays due to the on-going road construction.


Fishing continues to be pretty good, with a report that Lower Blue is getting hot. Most fishermen, there, use an inflated nightcrawler.


Take plenty of insect repellent for the mosquitoes.

BURNSIDE LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said that a father and daughter (David and Christina Bailey) limited out on small rainbows by using worms.




CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that Diane Morgan of Minden and her fishing partner caught their limits on Saturday. They were trolling with rainbow Rapala lures. Their largest trout was an 8-pound rainbow.




CARSON RIVERS, CALIF:


East Carson River: Three fly fishermen fished the trophy section on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. They caught a released a total of 21 trout (the biggest was a 22-inch rainbow), all on dry flies.


West Carson River: Tough fishing because of the low and clear water. One angler had a 2 pound rainbow.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Sara at the Grizzly Store and Resort (530-832-0270) reported the fish are all but jumping into the boats. We are seeing more and more 4 pounders. The fishing hasn't been this good for a long, long time. The fishermen are getting their limits and are back by 7 a.m. Yesterday (Monday) was like a fire drill. They were standing in line to use the fish cleaning sink. It has been outstanding for both trolling and stillfishing.




DONNER LAKE, CALIF: No report.




EAGLE LAKE, CALIF: Dave Meserve of the Eagle Lake Marina (530-825-3454) said the fishing continues to be excellent. Fishermen report catching Eagle Lake Trout weighing between 2-5 and 3.5 pounds. Best results are still in early morning. The Eagles Nest and Wildcat point areas continue as the most productive.


Stillfishing with nightcrawlers under slip bobbers continues to work best.


Trollers are using nightcrawlers, Rainbow Runner, Thomas Buoyant and Needlefish lures at 20-35 foot depths.




FEATHER RIVER AT ORVILLE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing in Redding (800-670-4448) reported: Water flow is 5,500 C.F.S.


King salmon fishing is good! Catching fish every day! 4-8 fish days. Average size salmon is 15-30 pounds with bright, chrome fish. Using T-50 and T-55 Flatfish lures.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero said that they are catching limits of rainbow trout. Fishing around the Dry Creek area. Using downriggers with Rapalas and Rebels, 60-100 feet deep.

SQUAW CREEK RESERVOIR (north of Gerlach in Washoe County): No report.




STAMPEDE RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dick "Father" Murphy of Fishing with Father Murphy (888-852-2680) suggested that you troll the area from the boat ramp to the island and then west of the island.


Troll at a depth of 35-45'.


Use Lollipop or watermelon Murph's Kokanee Bugs. Tip the hook with a piece of white corn and scent the corn with either shrimp or anise oil.


Murph's Flash Bugs and the Murphy Magic Firetiger are also working well.


Fishing has picked up in the last couple of days.


Average size of the Kokanee salmon is 1-2.75 pounds.




LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:


Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "We're still catching our Mackinaw trout very early in the morning.


I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.


I troll 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.


We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."




LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:


Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) reported, "Mackinaw fishing has been good, early in the morning.


They are stacked up and actively feeding near the bottom at 150-250'.


On Friday, Joe Donnelly of Modesto, Calif., caught a 17 pounder, off Dollar Point.


On Saturday, Aleda Deuble, 9-years-old, of Illinois caught a 20 pounder at Cal-Neva Point, and reeled it in all by herself.


On Monday, we fished at Cal-Neva Point, released 10 Macks and kept 4 (5-9 pounds).


I've been trolling 130-220' deep, in a figure eight pattern, with large, silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.


My trolling areas are Cal-Neva Point, Carnelian Bay and Dollar Point."




LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: Gene St. Denis reported the Macks are running 2-5 pounds and stacked up in front of Camp Richardson. The Kokanee salmon are at a depth of 80-100 feet in water that is over 400 feet deep.




LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis said the Macks are running 1-4 pounds at a depth of 140-240' and the best results are from jigging with a live minnow.




TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) checked in and said that the fishing is really quiet which is normal for this time of the year. Not a lot of people out anymore. A few fishermen are picking up a few fish, with nightcrawlers from shore.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF. AREA:


Lower Twin Lake: Cary Blue of the Twin Lakes Resort (760-932-7751) reported: Fishing and catching are really good right now, the full moon is gone and the trout are ready.


Power Baits and nightcrawlers are both working along with Sierra Gold, chrome/blue lures, Super Dupers and flies.


A 4-pound 9-ounce rainbow on a Woolly Bugger fly.


A limit that weighed 9-pound, 2-ounces with Trout Tubes.


A limit that weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces with a small Excel.


Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village (760-932-7071) reported Jeff Shurley of Carson City caught a 5-pound, 10-ounce rainbow on a red Super Duper lure. Stringers of good size being caught on nightcrawlers and either rainbow or orange Power Bait. Fish and Game added several 2-3 pound rainbows to their weekly stocking.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Doug Busey checked in and said that Matt Cantwell of Carson City reported that he and his two children caught and released about 40-50 trout, using a tiny, artificial crawdad (Micro's Chartreuse Trout Claw). On the trip before that, they had caught 10-12 trout using a sliding sinker, No. 18 hook and nightcrawler-flavored Power Bait.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) said: "The weather is beautiful. Cold at night (38 degrees) and hot in the day (85 degrees).


The fishing is still good.


The old, original boat ramp is working perfectly and boat trailers are launching from there. It is made of old military landing mats and it is located directly across the bay from the Indian boat ramp.


There are lots of limits, although nothing spectacular in size.


Chad Farstreet of Winnemucca bagged a nice buck on the first day of archery deer season. It had a tall rack that was 25 inches wide. It was his first deer hunt. He got in at the top of Poor Man's Creek in Area. No. 6 on the northeast side of the reservoir.
