A memorial service for Martin Louis Schaub, 86, a Yerington resident, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington.
Mr. Schaub died Jan. 4, 2003, at the SLMC long-term care unit in Yerington. He was born Feb. 1, 1916, in Fernley to Martin H. Schaub and Katharine Galbraith Schaub-Thuesen.
His families were early settlers in the Fernley area. His maternal grandparents came to Wadsworth-Fernley in 1906 to be telegraphers for the railroad.
He married Madge Sheehan, who preceded him in death.
He moved from Fernley to Yerington in 1957.
In 1966, he moved to California, where he worked construction for Operating Engineers Local 12. He enjoyed fishing on his boat. In 1986, he returned to Yerington.
Mr. Schaub spent most of his life in heavy equipment construction and leveled land on many of the ranches in Mason and Smith valleys. He also wokred in mining, ranching and bees. He and his wife owned and operated the Silver Spur Bar and the Home Cafe in Fernley and Schaub Construction and the J Bar E Trailer Park in Yerington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Chris Thuesen; and sister, Helen Valenzuela.
Among his survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Kathie and Jack Mann of Yerington; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Delores Schaub of Delton, Mich.; sisters and brothers-in-law June and Alvin Matheus of Yerington and Janet and Jim Struemph of Fernley; grandchildren Marci Brinkley, Bart Harrison, Katie Ferguson and Allen and Jimmy Schaub; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Elaine Kranjack of Yerington; and brother-in-law Charles Sheehan of California.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
