A remembrance of life service for Donald B. Dallas, 98, of Yerington will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Highway 208, in Yerington. A gathering will follow in the conference room of the Yerington branch of the Lyon County Library.

Mr. Dallas died July 5, 2007, at Mountain Springs Assisted Care Facility in Carson City.

He was born Sept. 21, 1908, in Steubenville, Ohio. He graduated from Bethany College in West Virginia during the Depression. He worked as a night clerk in the Fort Steuben Hotel and as an auditor for the Kroger market chain in Pennsylvania. He also worked as a precision tool grinder in the defense industries during World War II.

He married his first wife, Mary Jane Hawk, the mother of his children, in Pennsylvania.

A mining venture brought Mr. Dallas to Nevada in 1947, and he settled in Fernley with his family. He was elected to the Lyon County Commission serving one term from 1953-57. He was also a founding member of the Fernley Volunteer Fire Department.

He opened the Dallas Appliance Co. in Reno. He constructed three houses while living in Yerington. He was also a teacher at Yerington Intermediate School. Mr. Dallas married Alice in 1982.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters; former wives Jane Hawk Dallas, Lou McGowan Dallas and Vi Persons Dallas.

Among his survivors are his wife Alice, of Denver; a son and daughter-in-law Donald M. and Nancy of Virginia City Highlands; daughters, Mindy Dallas of Bronx, N.Y., Pamela Dallas of Reno; sister and brother-in-law Marian and Larry Boston of Marshville, N.C.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
