Intake No. 2: Rave reports on fishing with Power Bait or nightcrawlers.


North Lake: Many limits with olive Woolly Bugger flies or small lures (Panther/Martin, Blue Fox or Kastmaster).


Sabrina Lake: Has been consistently great. Trolling has been excellent with nightcrawlers or Rapalas. Shore fishing has been very good with Power Bait or worms.


South Lake: An 8-year-old angler nailed a 4-pound, 14-ounce rainbow using a Thomas Buoyant lure. A 4-pound rainbow using a baby nightcrawler by the dam.


Bishop Creek: A 2-pound, 10-ounce tagged rainbow with nightcrawlers.


Backcountry: The mosquitoes are vicious.




BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) had no report due to the Death Ride. Expect delays due to road construction. Take plenty of insect repellent for the mosqutoes.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF: Dave Kirby said: Both rivers are crystal clear and low. They were planted last Friday and are scheduled to be planted on Thursday.


East Carson River: No report due to the Death Ride.


West Carson River: A few limits were caught despite the Death Ride.


Sam Huff of Gardnerville caught a 5.5 pound rainbow on a gold spinner on Saturday.


Trevor Wentz of Minden got a 2.5 pound rainbow on red Salmon eggs.

CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: David DeSurra of the Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260) reported:


Convict Lake: The top fish of the week were a 5.7 pound Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout caught on Turbo Power Bait from the north shore, a 4.93 pound Alpers on a Mini Jig at the inlet, a 4.26 Alpers on a nightcrawler from the jetty and a 4.24 on a nightcrawler at the inlet.

DAVIS CREEK POND AT DAVIS CREEK PARK IN WASHOE VALLEY: No report.




DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Sara at the Grizzly Store and Resort (530-832-0270) reported that the fishing is a little slow, probably due to the warm weather and full moon. Two trollers on Tuesday morning checked in, one got skunked and the other caught one rainbow.




DONNER LAKE, CALIF: No report.




EAGLE LAKE, CALIF: Dave Meserve of the Eagle Lake Marina reported anglers saw a good weekend of fishing. Many trout came in at or above the 3-pound mark.


Stillfishing with nightcrawlers continue best.


Trollers using downriggers or leadline set-ups at 25-35 foot depths.


Lures being used include plastic grubs and Needlefish.


Trolling with nightcrawlers also works well.


Best producing areas include Shrimp Island, Wildcat Point, Eagles Nest and near the Eagle Lake Marina jetty.

FROG LAKE, CALIF. (On the hiking trail into Winnemucca Lake): Don and Elaine Quilici of Carson City reported no fishing action on Saturday. There were dogs swimming in the water, people wading and children throwing rocks into the lake.

STAMPEDE RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dick Biggs reported slow fishing for Kokanee salmon. He reported some action for rainbows on small, black-gold or black/sliver, floating Rapala lures.




LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:


Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "Yesterday (Monday) was super fantastic, today was terrible. Yesterday, we caught a total of 15 Macks (21-25 inches), today we only caught 5. It's up one day and down the next. It's driving me crazy!


We're catching our Mackinaw trout, very early in the morning.


I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.


We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.


We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."




LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:


Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said, "Mackinaw fishing has been slow, and you need to constantly adjust your trolling speed, presentation and leader length.


The Macks are stacked along the edges of the cliffs or shelves.


The bite is definitely very early in the mornings and Macks are stuffed with shrimp.


We've been trolling 180-240 feet deep with large, silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.


My trolling areas are Cal-Neva Point, Agate Bay, Dollar Point and in front of Sunnyside."




LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: No report.




LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis reported the Mackinaw fishing (1-4 pounds) is slow.


Toplining for rainbows and browns along the shoreline is best when the sun first comes up.


Troll early in the morning at Zephyr Cove or Logan Shoals in water 6-10 feet deep with black/silver or rainbow, F-5 or F-7 Rapala lures.


Watch out for the rocks just under the surface.




TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775) 266-3550 reported The lake is full and the water level is beginning to drop.


Fishing has slowed down due to the full moon and it is taking most of a day to catch a limit.


Still fishermen are anchored on the south end and in the mouth of the river. They are using Chartreuse or rainbow Power Bait or worms.


Trollers are using silver flasher blades and worms.


Shore fishermen are using Power Bait or worms.


The fish are along the edge of the lake and the boaters are trolling about 75-100 feet from shore.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF. AREA:


Lower Twin Lake: Cary Blue of the Twin Lakes Resort at Lower Twin Lake reported fishing is still excellent.


Nightcrawlers seem to be the best bait from shore.


Hotshots, Thomas Buoyants and Rapalas along with flashers with worms are the choice for trolling.


Amy Mittenburg of Carson City caught a 4-pound, 10-ounce rainbow on July 12.


Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village ((760) 932-7468) reported the the biggest catch of the year award goes to Mickey Winfield of Carson City, with four fish, all rainbows, averaging 3.5 pounds each. All were caught from shore with Rainbow Power Bait, laced with Garlic Trout Gravy.


A 5-pound, 7-ounce rainbow on a gold Phebe lure.


Water temp is holding at 56 degrees.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) reported: We've got good fishing but not many fishermen. The weather has been beautiful, with the daytimes about 90 and then cooling off into the 30's at night. It was 35 last night (Monday).


Shore fishing is better than trolling.


Fishermen are catching some trout and bass, lots of perch and some Channel Catfish.


The trout fishing has slowed down and they are being caught on nightcrawlers or Power Bait.


A Utah angler caught a 19.5 inch (3.5 pound) rainbow on a nightcrawler.


The perch are being caught on a black Crappie jig with a white eye and tipped with a piece of corn or worm.




WILSON COMMON POND IN WASHOE VALLEY: No report.




WINNEMUCCA LAKE, CALIF: Don and Elaine Quilici of Carson City caught and released a total of 12 small brookies from shore on Saturday. They were spincasting with red/white No. 2 TOR-P-DO lures.
