LAKE ALPINE, CALIF: No report.




BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF:


Intake No. 2: Rainbow Power Bait or nightcrawlers have been best.


A lot of good reports with an olive Woolly Bugger fly or green Stingers.


North Lake: Good results with Roostertail lures near the sough edge of the lake. Lots of fish.


Sabrina Lake: Is still full and getting stocked heavily. Great fishing by trolling a Rapala lure or nightcrawler or by casting a Thomas Buoyant lure.


South Lake: Kathy Geyer of Fallbrook, Calif. caught a 7-pound, 1-ounce Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout using a Thomas Buoyant lure. This puts her at the top (by one ounce) of the leader board for this year!


An angler from Riverside caught a 4-pound, 9-ounce rainbow on a Super Duper lure.


Alpers Trophy rainbows are still coming in weekly with the fish in the 4-8 pound range.


Bishop Creek: A 10-year old nailed a 4-pound, 9-ounce rainbow on rainbow Power Bait.


Backcountry: The mosquitoes are still vicious.




BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) said that there was good action on the back side of Upper Blue, this last weekend.


A fly fisherman caught and released a large number of rainbows, up to 2 pounds. He was using Nymphs.


There were also a number of bait fishermen with fish.


Expect delays due to road construction.


Take plenty of insect repellent for the mosqutoes, they are fierce.




BOCA RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dick "Father" Murphy of Fishing with Father Murphy (888-852-2680) suggested to troll in front of the cliffs and by the dam.


Troll at a depth of 30-35 feet and use Lollipop, Black-Sparkle or Chicken Pox Murph's Kokanee Bugs or Wedding Rings.




BOULDER RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: No report.




BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: No report.




BURNSIDE LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said that there was a report of several limits of small brookies, taken with worms just off the bottom.




CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: No report.




CARSON RIVERS, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that both rivers are crystal clear and low and have lots of fish. You have to be sneaky because the fish are spooky.


East Carson River: No report.


West Carson River: Paul Smith of Minden caught a 3.5 pound rainbow on Power Bait. His daughter Katie caught a 2.25 pound rainbwo on her first cast with Power Bait.




CARSON RIVERS, NEV: No report.




CATNIP RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: Closed.




CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: David DeSurra of the Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260) gave this update:


Convict Lake: The top fish of the week were an 8.83 pound Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout caught on a Rapala lure from the north shore, a 4.93 pound Alpers on a Mini Jig at the inlet, a 4.11 pounder on a Thomas Buoyant lure out on the lake and a 4.10 on a nightcrawler at the jetty.


Convict Creek: The largest fish of the week were a 1.38 pounder on Salmon eggs and a 1.00 pounder on Power Bait.




CRATER LAKE, CALIF. (Near Kit Carson Pass): No report.




CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF: Susie Greilich at Kittridge Sporting Goods Store in Mammoth (760-934-7566) reported that worms are the best bait at Hilton Bay and McGee Bay.


Some fish up to 4 pounds.


Perch are hitting at Leighton Springs on white jigs or Power Grubs.


Algae is gone.




DAVIS CREEK POND AT DAVIS CREEK PARK IN WASHOE VALLEY: No report.




DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Sara at the Grizzly Storeand Resort (530-832-0270) reported the fishing is pretty slow due to the hot weather.


The trollers are doing fairly well, early in the mornings.


Fly fishing has been reported to be up and down.

EAGLE LAKE, CALIF: Dave Meserve of the Eagle Lake Marina (530-825-3454) gave this update:


Fishing continues to improve. Most fish caught are weighing between 3 and 4.5 pounds.


Anglers are doing best in the Eagles Nest area from boats.


Moderate success has been reported from shore at the Marina jetty.




FEATHER RIVER AT ORVILLE, CALIF: Kirk Portocorrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing in Redding (800-670-4448) reported: Fishing is good one day, fair the next for King Salmon, but catching fish every day. Average size is 15-30 pounds with bright, chrome fish. Using T-50 and T-55 Flatfish lures.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot (530-9993-4683) said fishing has been OK, but the hot weather has slowed things down, somewhat.


Bank fishermen continue to do well with nightcrawlers or Power Bait.


Fly fishing has been good at Big Cove.

Redding to Anderson area:14,500 C.F.S. Rainbow trout fishing is good. Great weather bringing on a fantastic bug hatch. Using spinning gear with Glo-Bugs, crickets and Flatfish lures. Fly fishing with indicators, using olive and brown, No. 14 & 16, PT's.


Red Bluff: Opening day of King Salmon was fair. 2-6 fish to a boat.




SACRAMENTO RIVER (Red Bluff area): Andy Moore of Carson City caught a 28 pound King Salmon on a Flatfish lure wrapped with herring near the Diversion Dam on the Opening Morning. He won second place in a pool for the heaviest total fish weight in a boat. The winner was a boat that had a 35 pound King.

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: No report.




SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocorrero said that they are catching limits of rainbow trout and landlocked King Salmon. Fishing is great. Fishing around the Dry Creek area. Using downriggers with Rapalas and Rebels, 60-100 feet deep.




SPARKS MARINA (in Sparks): No report.




SPOONER LAKE, NEV: No report.




SQUAW CREEK RESERVOIR (north of Gerlach in Washoe County): No report.




STAMPEDE RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dick "Father" Murphy suggested to troll from the boat ramp to the west end of the island, then from the island to the rocky point west of the island.


Troll at a depth of 45-55 feet with rainbow, Lollipop or watermelon Murph's Kokanee Bugs.


Also good with red Dick Nite lures or Wedding Rings.




LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:


Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "We're catching our Mackinaw trout, very early in the morning.


I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.


We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.


We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."




LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:


Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) reported, "Mackinaw fishing has been slow, and you need to constantly adjust your trolling speed, presentation and leader length.


The Macks are stacked along the edges of the cliffs or shelves.


The bite is definitely very early in the mornings and Macks are stuffed with shrimp.


We've been trolling 180-240 feet deep with large, silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.


My current trolling areas are Cal-Neva Point, Carnelian Bay and Dollar Point.


We got three fish this week averaging 8-9 pounds."




LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: No report.




LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis reported the Mackinaw fishing (1-4 pounds) is slow.


Toplining for rainbows and browns along the shoreline is best when the sun first comes up.


No other boat traffic at that hour.


Troll early in the morning at Zephyr Cove or Logan Shoals in water 6-10 feet deep with black/silver or rainbow, F-5 or F-7 Rapala lures.


Watch out for the rocks just under the surface.




TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775) 266-3550 said that the water level is still up and the fishing has been fairly quiet due to the hot weather.


You can catch a limit in a good day's fishing or 2-3 in about a half-day.


The fish are running up to 18 inches with some trout running up to 2.5 pounds.


Mainly using nightcrawlers, both from shore and boats.


The crawdads are coming out, if anyone is interested in trapping any of them.

Little Truckee River, Calif: No report.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF. AREA:


Lower Twin Lake: Cary Blue of the Twin Lakes Resort reported that fish up to 1.5-2 pounds are in really good numbers but the large ones are playing hide-and-seek.


A 5 1/4 pound rainbow on a Super Duper lure on July 17.


Crawlers, Power Baits and lures are still the ticket.


Trolling has been varied.


Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village ((760) 932-7468) reported that an angler caught a 5-pound, 6-ounce rainbow and a 3-pound, 7-ounce rainbow on Woolly Bugger flies. A 6-year-old caught a 4-pound, 4-ounce rainbow using a Woolly Worm fly. There was also a 5-pound, 4-ounce rainbow on a Woolly Worm and a 3-pound, 8 ounce brown on a rainbow Rapala lure.


Stringers on rainbow, Chartreuse or yellow Power Bait.


Robinson Creek: Is as good as usual. Lots of fish on all of the normal baits. A lot of limits.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) said: I've taken on the Tribe because they are running water, wide open, out of the reservoir. It is going down the Owyhee River to the Owyhee Dam in Oregon. I suspect that it is being sold for power and it is only supposed to be used for irrigation of crops.


The reservoir level is coming down but the fishing is all around great.


The perch are hammering and the trout are feeding.


Bass and Catfishing is slow, right now because there is so much feed in the water.
