LAKE ALMANOR, CALIF: No report.




LAKE ALPINE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said it will be planted this week with some very large planter rainbows from that private hatchery in Susanville.




BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF: Bishop Creek Resorts (760-873-4484):


Intake No. 2: Has remained fairly clear with the rains. Rainbow Power Bait and red/white Stingers have been good. Some nice fish with olive Matuka flies.


North Lake: Road is a little dicey due to the rains. Nightcrawlers or rainbow Power Bait have been great. Some good action on Thomas Buoyant lures.


Sabrina Lake: Is spilling. We have plenty of water. Good fishing with nightcrawlers or Power Bait, back by the inlets. Trolling with Rapalas on the surface is bringing in lots of fish.


South Lake: Top fish of the week were a 4-pound, 11-ounce rainbow on rainbow Power Bait and a 4-pound, 4-ounce rainbow on Power Bait.


Bishop Creek: Nightcrawlers or Salmon eggs have been great. Some action with Power Bait.


Backcountry: The mosquitoes are still vicious.




BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) said that there was good action, with a number of limits on the back side of Upper Blue this last weekend.


Expect delays due to road construction.


Take plenty of insect repellent for the mosquitoes. They are fierce, especially in the mornings.




BLUE LAKES, NEV: A report of good shore fishing with Power Bait for lots of rainbows.




BOCA RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dick "Father" Murphy of Fishing with Father Murphy (888-852-2680) suggested to troll from the boat ramp to the white cliffs and by the dam.


Troll at a depth of 30-35 feet and use Lollipop, Fire Tiger or Chicken Pox Murph's Kokanee Bugs or Murphy Magic Spoons in Fire Tiger or Chicken Pox colors.


Even though the fish are smaller, the action is a lot better than at Stampede Reservoir.




BOULDER RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: No report.




BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: No report.




BURNSIDE LAKE, CALIF: No report.




CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said it will be planted this week with some very large planter rainbows from that private hatchery in Susanville.




CARSON RIVERS, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported: "Both rivers are crystal clear, low and have lots of fish. You have to be sneaky because the fish are spooky. Both the East and West Forks will be planted this week with some very large planter rainbows from that private hatchery in Susanville. These rivers should be definitely the place to go stream fishing this weekend."


East Carson River: No report.


West Carson River: An angler reported catching a limit of rainbows, up to 2 pounds on Salmon eggs.




CARSON RIVERS, NEV: No report.




CATNIP RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: Closed.




CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: David DeSurra of the Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260) gave this update:


Convict Lake: The top fish of the week were a 4.17 pound Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout on yellow Power Bait from the jetty, a 2.50 pound Alpers rainbow on a nightcrawler from the south shore and a 2.43 pounder on a nightcrawler from the south shore.


Convict Creek: The largest fish of the week were a 4.10 pound Alpers rainbow on a brown Bead-Head fly, a 1.61 pounder on orange Power Bait and a 1.50 on a Mini Jig.




CRATER LAKE, CALIF. (Near Kit Carson Pass): No report.




CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF: Susie Greilich at Kittridge Sporting Goods Store in Mammoth (760-934-7566) reported fish up to 22 inches on nightcrawlers at McGee Bay or Green Banks.




DAVIS CREEK POND AT DAVIS CREEK PARK IN WASHOE VALLEY: No report.




DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Sara at the Grizzly Store and Resort (530-832-0270) reported the fishing has picked up, especially for the early morning trollers.


Shore fishermen with Power Bait have been doing very well at Honker Cove, with reports of 20-21 inch rainbows.


Fly fishing should be good at Old Camp Five in the evenings.


The surface temp of the lake is 74 degrees.

FEATHER RIVER AT ORVILLE, CALIF: Kirk Portocorrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing in Redding (800-670-4448) reported: Fishing is good! Catching fish every day! 4-8 fish days. These fish are beautiful. Average size salmon is 15-30 pounds with bright, chrome fish. Using T-50 and T-55 Flatfish lures.




FORT CHURCHILL COOLING PONDS, NEV: No report.




FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot (530-9993-4683) said fishing has been okay for those fishing early and deep. Weekend fishermen have to contend with lots of jet skis and pleasure boats which can make fishing a challenge. If you can, try to come up during the week when the lake is quieter.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby said that the reservoir is in its summer mode. The water is warm and green and the fish are deep. Shore fishing is very difficult.

JUNE LAKE LOOP AREA, CALIF: Susie Greilich reported:


Gull Lake: A 6-pounder caught on rainbow Power Bait from shore. Several 3-4 pounders also on Power Bait.


Grant Lake: Broken Back Rapala lures.


June Lake: Great late evening hatch.


Silver Lake: A lot of 2-4 pounders. Troll olive Matuka flies or Thomas Buoyant lures.


Rush Creek: Salmon eggs, small spinners or dry flies.




KINNEY RESERVOIR, CALIF: Don and Elaine Quilici of Carson City reported catching and releasing a total of 8 rainbows, up to 13 inches, between 10:30 a.m. and noon on Sunday. Then the thunder, lightning and rain came and chased them home. They had been spincasting with No. 1 red/white striped TOR-P-DO lures.

Redding to Anderson Area: Water flows at 15,000 C.F.S. Rainbow trout fishing is fair to good. Using spinning gear with Glo Bugs, Crickets or Flatfish lures. Fly fishing with indicators and olive or brown, No. 14 and 16 PT's.


Red Bluff area: Picking up a few Kings. Look for fishing to get better as more fish enter the system. Counts are picking up the last few days.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocorrero said that they are catching limits of rainbow trout and landlocked King Salmon. Fishing is great. Fishing around the Dry Creek area. Using downriggers with Rapalas and Rebels, 60-100 feet deep.




SPARKS MARINA (in Sparks): No report.




SPOONER LAKE, NEV: No report.




SQUAW CREEK RESERVOIR (north of Gerlach in Washoe County): No report.




STAMPEDE RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dick "Father" Murphy suggested to troll from the boat ramp to the island and then west to the rocky point.


Fish are at 55-60 feet deep after the sun comes up. Get there early!


Troll at a depth of 45-55 feet with Murphy's Double Spinners and rainbow or Lollipop Murph's Kokanee Bugs.


Tip your hook with a piece of white corn and scent the corn with shrimp or anise oil.


Troll as slow as you can.




LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:


Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "This Friday is our annual Big Mack Feed fund raiser. We're catching our Mackinaw trout, very early in the morning.


I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.


We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.


We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."




LAKE TAHOE -- North Shore:


Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) reported, "Mackinaw fishing has been slow, and you need to constantly adjust your trolling speed, presentation and leader length.


The Macks are stacked along the edges of the cliffs or shelves.


The bite is definitely very early in the mornings and Macks are stuffed with shrimp.


We've been trolling 180-240 feet deep with large, silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.


My current trolling areas are Cal-Neva Point, Carnelian Bay and Dollar Point."




LAKE TAHOE -- South Shore: No report.




LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis reported the Mackinaw fishing (1-4 pounds) is slow.


Toplining for rainbows and browns along the shoreline is best when the sun first comes up.


Troll early in the morning at Zephyr Cove or Logan Shoals in water 6-10 feet deep with black/silver or rainbow, F-5 or F-7 Rapala lures.


Watch out for the rocks just under the surface.




TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775) 266-3550 said that the fishing has really dropped off. The water is getting warm and the lake is dropping. Late July and August is not the best time to fish. Have not seen a limit in a few days. The fish have gone deeper and you need to fish about 25 feet deep. Fishermen are doing best with nightcrawlers, both from shore and boats.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF. AREA:


Lower Twin Lake: Cary Blue of the Twin Lakes Resort reported that fishing has slowed down thanks to the heat and the thunder storms. Top fish were a 4-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on Power Bait, a 4-pound rainbow on a Needlefish lure and a 10-year-old caught a 4-pound rainbow on nightcrawlers.


Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village ((760) 932-7468) reported that nightcrawlers and Power Bait are bringing in pan-sized catches from shore and anchored boats. Flies are landing some 2-3 pounders. Top fish were: a 4-pound, 10-ounce rainbow on a red/gold Thomas Buoyant lure, a 4-pound, 3-ounce brown on a silver Rapala lure and a 3-pound, 7-ounce rainbow on a Woolly Bugger fly.


Robinson Creek: Has slowed down a little bit. Use all of the normal baits and lures.




VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF. AREA: No report.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Steve Epling of the Wild Horse Resort (775-758-6472) said: We got lots of wind, thunder and lightning but very little rain. It rained all around us. The reservoir level is coming down but the fishing is still good for boaters and shore fishermen.


We need some fishermen up here.


The rainbows and browns are hitting.


The perch are hammering white jigs tipped with a piece of worm or mealworm.


Bass and Catfishing is slow.
