Robert McNeil Singleton, 84, a Carson City resident for the past four years, died May 25, 2003, in Carson City. He was born Jan. 2, 1919, in Azusa, Calif., to Cecil and Florice Zodilla Wade Singleton.
He graduated from Citrus Union High School in 1936 and Citrus Junior College in 1939 then attended the University of California, Los Angeles.
He lived in Glendora, Calif., until 1971, when he moved to Big Bear Lake, Calif.
Mr. Singleton worked for Lockheed Overseas Corp. in Ireland until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. He was a World War II veteran who served as a seaman first class.
He worked as a building inspector, assistant district engineer and district engineer for Los Angeles County until he retired in 1969. He retired as director of building and safety for San Bernardino County in 1977.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Nell.
Among his survivors are his wife, Dorothy Ann Doerfler-Singleton of Carson City; daughters Nancy Sirney of Glendora, Calif., and Betty Hammers of Big Bear Lake; and four grandchildren and two great-grandsons, all of California.
