Carson City police are looking for a gunman who fired at least three shots Friday afternoon at two men as they ran through the Catalina Apartments.

"There's usually tons of kids out here," said Jessica Evans, 20.

Evans, along with friends Zandra Payton, 27 and Nick Tripp, 15, watched the men run by shortly after 3 p.m. as the trio stood near their apartment.

"We ran inside in a panic," she said.

Payton said children usually fill the parking lot where sheriff's deputies found a bullet hole in the driver's door of a Chevy Lumina sedan parked there.

"They would have hit somebody if it wasn't so cold out," she said.

Officers cruised the northeast Carson apartments, off Hot Springs Road, looking for the Hispanic gunman who was wearing a black long-sleeve sweatshirt, black pants, with short hair and a black baseball cap.

Witness Jeff Finch, 15, said he heard the three men speaking Spanish as they ran past him, before the gunman raised his weapon on the lawn near building 708 and fired at least three shots from a black, long-barreled handgun covered in a blue bandana.

The two men, whose names were not known, ran east across the parking lot, and the gunman ran west toward Northgate Road, Evans said.

It's unknown if either of the fleeing men were hit.
