A man was arrested Friday afternoon after gunshots were fired near the Catalina Apartments, but he was not involved in the crime, according to Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Wade Penegor.
"He matched the description given of suspects -- that's why contact was made," said Penegor. The man was arrested on misdemeanor suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia after a 31/2-inch glass smoking pipe with white powder and black residue was found in his pocket.
There have been no further developments in the shooting at the northeast Carson apartments off Hot Springs Road, according to Penegor.
Sheriff's deputies found a bullet hole in the driver's side door of a Chevy Lumina sedan after three shots were fired by a man chasing a short-haired Hispanic gunman who was wearing a black long-sleeved sweatshirt, black pants and a black baseball cap.
Witnesses said they heard three men speaking Spanish as they ran past before the gunman, who raised his weapon on the lawn and fired at least three shots from a black, long-barreled handgun covered in a blue bandana.
The two men, whose names were not known, ran east across the parking lot, and the gunman ran west toward Northgate Road, Evans said.
It's unknown whether anyone was hit.
An investigation into the incident continues.
