The National Motorists Association asked the Senate Transportation Committee on Thursday to kill a bill that would allow traffic tickets based on video cameras at intersections.
SB220 would remove Nevada's prohibition against using automated systems based on video cameras to ticket drivers for violations of driving rules.
Motorists association spokesman Robert Glover of Sparks told the committee that violates constitutional guarantees that everyone is entitled to confront their accuser.
"So what do you do, have the camera brought into court and ask it questions?"
He said the primary problem with people running red lights isn't drivers ignoring the laws but bad engineering. Glover said too often, yellow light cycles are too short both for drivers and pedestrians attempting to cross through an intersection legally.
The committee took no action on the bill.
