Carson swimming sweeps Douglas

The Carson High boys and girls swim teams swept to wins over Douglas on Friday in Minden.


Carson's girls won 174-121 while the Senator boys won 139-78. The most exciting race of the day came in the boys 400-yard freestyle relay in which Carson was able to edge Douglas.


Jake Oxoby, Andrew Cardinal, Kiel Costella and Justin Barber won for Carson in three minutes, 3:35.45 seconds while Douglas took second in 3:35.76.


Carson's 200 medley relay of Todd Stroup, Barber, Costella and Oxoby won in 1:52.67. Barber also won the 200 free (1:50.07) and the 100 backstroke (57.83). Stroup took second in the 100 back (1:07.00). Douglas High's Scott Cronk placed second in the 200 free (1:54.93) while Jeff Stroup placed third (2:03.18).


In the 200 individual medley, Adrian Zeh and Todd Stroup went 1-2, with Zeh winning in 2:23.09 and Stroup taking second (2:26.68).


The Tigers' Andy Sturgess had an outstanding meet, winning the 50 free (23.25) and the 100 free (53.12). Oxoby placed second in the 50 free (24.80) while Cardinal took second (57.96) and Zeh placed third (1:00.51) in the 100 free.


Costella won the 500 free (5:12.98) and Brent Server won and Travis Hall took third in diving for Carson. Jeff Stroup placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.96) while Kevin Millim, Jeff and Todd Stroup and Cardinal placed second in the 200 free relay (1:48.70). Douglas won in 1:38.28.


For the girls, Tara Theilemann, Lauren Metcalf, Lauren Costella and Katie Wandel won the 200 medley relay (2:01.19). Costella also won the 200 I.M. (2:14.06) and the 100 back (1:01.66).


Theilemann won the 50 free (25.71) and the 100 butterfly (1:03.92).


Wandel won the 100 free (58.87) and took second in the 50 free (26.31). Metcalf took second in the 200 I.M. (2:22.03).


Carson went 1-2-3-4 in the 500 free with Metcalf winning in 5:23.99. Julie Struble took second, Patty Capistrant placed third and Beth Ware was fourth.


Jessica Goddard, Costella, Wandel and Theilemann won the 400 free relay (3:51.76). Goddard also placed third in the 200 free (2:09.29) and Emily Johnson, Hillary Schlager, Goddard and Metcalf took second in the 200 free relay (1:52.57) in another tight race. Douglas won in 1:51.89.


Schlager took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.06) and Ila Bottoms took second and Alyssa Jensen placed third in diving for Carson.
