The Carson High boys soccer team played a tough North Tahoe team to a 1-1 tie. North Tahoe also played South Tahoe to a 0-0 tie last week.

"They had a really strong team," Carson coach Jim Nealis said. "They're one of the better teams in the area right now."

Ernesto Ayala scored an unassisted goal for Carson in the first 10 minutes. North Tahoe tied the score on a penalty kick with 10 minutes left in the game.

"We played well in the first half," Nealis said. "We pretty much dominated most of the first half.

"The second half they made some major changes. They pressured us really hard."

Golie Robby Leibherr made several excellent saves in the second half to preserve the tie.

Carson also received a lift from forward Carlos Hernandez, who because he had been with his family in Costa Rica, was eligible for the first time on Tuesday. Hernandez, who played all 80 minutes, is expected to be one of the leaders of Carson's attack.
