Douglas baseball routs Wooster

When the dust settled on the first inning, every player in the Douglas starting lineup, except for the Tigers' most productive hitter this season, had crossed home at least once.

The Tigers broke out for nine runs on five hits and three errors in the first inning alone on their way to a 12-1 victory over Wooster at Tiger Field Thursday.

"It's good to come back like this after Tuesday," Glover said, referring to the Tigers' 8-7 loss to Spanish Springs. "Coming out and hanging a nine-spot on them was a great way to start the game."

Douglas leadoff hitter Luke Rippee crushed a towering shot deep to right center on the first pitch he saw from Wooster's Jesse Rasner before it was caught at the warning track.

Chad Walling then doubled off the left field wall and Bryan Miller was hit by a pitch. Brandon Huff singled to score Walling and Chris Honer doubled to score Miller and Huff.

Jimmy Pierce then reached on an error, Kyle Luken was hit by a pitch and D.J. Brady reached on an error, scoring Honer and Pierce, and ending Rasner's afternoon early.

The Tigers (20-5, 8-2) didn't go any easier on Colt reliever Kirk Nordmeyer.

Spike Agosta walked and Luke Rippee came back up with a sharp line-drive single to score Luken and Brady.

Walling then reached on an error, scoring Agosta.

Miller got hit by a pitch for the second time in the inning and Huff followed with a single to score Walling and wrap up Douglas' first-frame outbreak.

Miller and Luken both ended the game having been hit by two pitches.

"It's something we just kind of expect them to do, you can't really practice that" Glover said. "It breeds the mentality that we are not going to give any ground. It's just like a walk or a base hit - It's something that you can do to help out the team."

Miller struck out four in two innings and Huff came on in relief to strike out three and pick up the win.

Rippee finished the game with three RBI, while Walling and Huff each had two RBI.

Walling, Honer, Pierce and Luken each scored two runs and Huff, Honer and Pierce each collected two hits on the day.

Wooster (7-3 Sierra League) was plagued by errors throughout the game, committing five to Douglas' two.

The two teams will meet again in a key Sierra League doubleheader Saturday at Wooster beginning at 1 p.m.
